synopsis
Through a series of ghostly reminiscences a young man tries to piece together fragmented moments from the past, memories being triggered by admiration for his best friend Johnno.

As the story unfolds, hero worship turns to revulsion, as the web of deception and violence that Johnno creates is revealed, pulling narrator and audience into its destructive wake. Manipulated live-action mutates and combines with ghostly digital animation.

This is fantastic. Very intellegent blend of film & animation.
Very dark, scary story! I'll go to bed somewhat disturbed!

Quite simply one of the best short films I have ever seen. I first watched dad's dead late on channel 4 one night and it hit me like a repressed abuse memory; childhood recollections bubbled to the surface coupled with a sense of dread. Funny, beautiful and unnerving Dad’s dead left me unsettled after watching and it took me a while to shake that feeling off. A powerful work of art indeed.

This film has everything, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Young boy taken in by his so called friend. Very harrowing but compulsive viewing. Use of animation blends seamlessly in the film. Powerfull narration. It all works so very well.

Dad's Dead is an excellent film, I remember first seeing it when it was broadcast on the BBC.
It is very evocative, with a mesmeric quality that both scares and delights.
Its use of both animation and live footage are excellent and don't conflict, but compliment each other beautifully.
    EXCELLENT!
