synopsis
'To His Knees He Fell' is set in the bleak, isolated coastal region of Norfolk where for many centuries Britain’s oldest legend roams. Legend tells of a large hound that prowls the coastal paths of Norfolk. Lurking in the shadows, it tracks the steps of unsuspecting nightwalkers punishing them for their evil deeds. This phantom is called 'Black Shuck'.
short fact
'To his knees he fell' is a film based around one of Norfolk's must famous legends; Black Shuck. It was made as part of the DV Shorts Scheme 2004 and was shoot on location in a remote part of Norfolk called Hemsby. The films title was inspired by a old charcoal drawing of the legend which can be seen in the background of of the several shots in the pub. I really liked this short and I was going to say it reminded me of the M.R. James adaptation of Whistle and I'll Come to You (before i read the director's comment on this page!). I love the pacing of an M R James, a quiet brooding doom hangs over most of his shorts, this little flick has the same tone and is nearly wordless (a feat in itself!) and full of atmosphere, four stars!

Nice work, good to see a film set in Norfolk too!

I would be enclined to agree with the previous comment regarding the length and scripting. The cinematic techniques were what I was interested in here, the lighting and shadows etc were nicely done, some clever ideas!

Has a certain something haging over it. Fun to watch. The only critism I have is that it will probably give me bad dreams tonight. Most films don't...Good work.

    Dear Iker,

Thankyou for your kind words. Its always nice to have someone give positive criticism. I agree with your comment about it being 'quicker and to the point' and feel it could be shorter myself on reflection. But hey! live and learn.

Im glad you were enjoyed the mood and look of the film. I personally feel less is more when trying to unnerve an audience. Like the early 60's short films based on M. R. James ghost stories. (Think 'Whistle and I'll come to you' and 'Warning to the Curious')

    Thanks once again

    Andy
