synopsis
Deaf-awareness training is turned on its head as a deaf scientist leads us through identification, care and stimulation of 'The Sound Sensitive'
short fact
This was my first crack at making a short film and I loved every sweaty stressful minute of it. My aim was to allow deaf people the opportunity to poke and prod us hearing people for a change, and to allow us to see ourselves through their eyes.

With excellent technical support by the guys at VS1, David Ellington, and Mac Dunlop we managed to complete the whole film for under fifty quid. It really was a case of begging and borrowing and asking favours of people's time.

This film shows the experts communicating their ignorance. Looking forward to future fims which shows the same problem but maybe in a different setting.

Amusing, but factually innacurate. Many deaf people are acutely sensitive to certain sounds. I often sit in or near the interpreters section at assemblies of Jehovah's Witnesses, as I'm learning ISL, and I remember once when the sound system was acting up and there was a high-pitched whine. Most people there were irritated by it, but one Deaf man was in obvious pain. Sudden loud bangs also are heard by many deaf people.
