Fazaila is a Shia-Muslim teenager from East London whose mum thinks she's becoming "too English". This new short documentary, a first-film by 19 year-old Heena Bukhari, is a personal exploration into being female and Muslim in Britain today by taking a look at the life and views of her younger cousin Fazaila.
Heena Bukhari is a 19 year-old British-Asian woman from East London who has recently embarked on the pursuit of a career in filmmaking.
Her first student documentary film, made while studying at college for a BTEC qualification in Media, and using footage shot in Iraq and Pakistan, explored her own need to understand the cultural and religious background of her own family, who are Shia Muslim.
This short film was produced by Redcurrent Films as part of our drive to encourage and nurture new and emerging film talent. The film was wholly funded by Film London’s “Pulse Digital Shorts” scheme – a funding strand with similar aims.
