This is an amusing film, not a laugh-out loud film. Humorous drama - hence the confusion.

It's the light, fluffy side of "Sex, Lies and Videotape" - where a person who is unable to be truly intimate with another person can do so through the medium of tape. This time it's audio, not video tape.

Again, the targets of intimacy are the very people who are unable to be truly intimate in the first place.

It just about holds its length but I'm not won over by the casting. Whether in the direction or just that plain old problem of "electricity", I don't think there's much spark between the two leads. If there had been more "They can't keep their hands off one another" then the comedy could've been more successful. Greater stylisation of camera and editing would've pushed it further too.

The obvious thing missing - both of the leads having far too much fun while actually recording a language lesson - and perhaps this being repeated in various ordinary educational situations to crank up the pent-up desire thoughout the story.

Sure, if they wanted to comment. It was really just a suggestion based on my point of view but if they really want to respond it would be interesting to hear their thinking.

Thanks for your post, Nick. It's an interesting point. Our classification was based upon the information we received about the film. Would be interesting though to know what the filmmaker thinks...

Not sure if this is correctly listed as a comedy. The ending does not really justify a comedy rating and I think the film would be better served filed under drama. I spent the entire film thinking "this isn't funny" rather than enjoying an unusual script and some good performances. The film looked great, with some nice shots and varied locations. The idea was also fun, especially for an ex-TEFL teacher. Just as I say consider moving it to another section to get a better reception.
