short fact
The series of short radio plays has been inspired by a scenario produced by writer Peter Ackroyd.

Six artist, film-maker and writer teams have collaborated to create films from Ackroyd's narrative, to be heard in Radio 4's Afternoon Play slot between 2.15-3.00pm on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March.

On both days listeners can also watch the stories unfold with a simultaneous 'red button' screening of each of the tales or can watch on-demand on the BBC Film Network website.

The City Speaks is a visual and narrative feast celebrating London as a great cosmopolitan city.

The Radio 4 broadcast was so stupid and dull I thought I must have been missing something. I decided to view the video and that at least proved the second part of that statement to be wrong.

I heard this trailered on the radio and wanted to listen/watch. I loved it. It adds and extra dimension to words without have the distraction of trying to be TV.

Well done whoever !!

Loved it! Listened first on radio, then listened/watched. Totally convincing story, to use an oldfashioned expression, "heartwarming". I liked the message that we can be so busy looking for something we don't see it under our noses. I like the stills/dialogue - an excellent way of catching the attention of people (children?) who cannot sit still enough to listen to a story.

What a fantastic collaboration of multi-media skill and talent. I played "Pushing" to my undergraduate media students who loved it - and more to the point got the fact that they weren't watching a film on tv, but rather seeing how images could compliment the words and feelings we so often experience over the airwaves.

I am not quite sure what the purpose is of having a radio play with pictures. Why not just have the film on TV, since you can't watch with a radio.
Also why was the the film, that was shot in widescreen shown in a 4:3 frame?
