"The Ends" was made with a group of approx 50 young people from inner city housing estates in Elephant&Castle. The youngsters from Kickstart Youth Inclusion program (VIP) attended our film drama workshop project over a period of 6 months with the objective of developling a short film. We used improvisation as a tool to explore frank and honest issues such as gun crime, violence, gang culture etc, social concerns that these youngsters experience in their everyday lives. This profoundly collaborative process delivered a real energy, truth, verve and sense of authenticity to the film as well as development of the script outline. The overall objective was to prepare the youths from the borough of Southwark with the necessary tools to act in a professional short film. The challenge being the drama workshop group had little or no acting experience whatsoever. All the creative input for the film project script derived from the drama workshop sessions.
