synopsis
Filmed over two days at the Newport Tattoo Convention 2007 this short film follows Paul and Damien as they create the next part of Damien's 'body suit'. Paul explains how it's done, and explores the limitations of a medium where you can never go back, while Damien tells us what it feels like as the needles pierce the skin.
short fact
"I made an installation piece in 2006 (called The Aberdeen Tattoo and seen at the Royal Scottish Academy and Limousine Bull in Aberdeen), which explored the relationship between the human 'canvases' and the images that they choose to carry on their bodies. This film is a continuation of that work, although this time it's the relationship between artist and canvas that's explored."

I'm considering getting a tattoo which is probably why I watched it(!), so it was interesting to hear what it feels and sounds like. Thought it summed up the experience quickly and well.

It's a shame it was only 3mins long. Some interesting points raised in the film, but I can't help feeling that a lot of it had already been covered in a lot of the other series on tattooing (TLC and Discovery networks) done in the US.
I do think there is a lot more realism to the artists in UK works.

Nice piece, whatever. Make it 'a year in the life of...' and I'll be thrilled

As the proud owner of four tattoos (and the noise of the needle went right through me!), it's interesting to hear what the tattoo artist has to say, as that's something you rarely hear, especially as they are largely silent while they work in my experience. I found the tattoo subject picked a little generic, and as a short doc it hinted at more than it actually expounded. I'd like to see more...
