synopsis
The film explores the psycho-geography of the city through the experiences of a local woman who is partially blind. It was filmed in Manchester around the location of the public screen it was created to be seen on using digital cameras and night vision security camera. The film approaches documentary filming making from a unique angle, bring together live action and animation to describe the city from the perspective of someone that has a heightened senses from their lack of vision. Creating a comment on the issues surrounding disability, our judgement of other people in the city and our common and shared understanding of public space.
short fact
"The film was made to be seen in a public place and therefore to make a comment on it. We approached the visual production of the film after completing a short interview with Jo about how she experiences and navigates the city."

All the filming was done at night in central Manchester, taking different routes from the location of the public screen. The live action footage was then hand traced frame by frame into moving illustation by a group of collaborating artists. The interview was transcibed and made into a typographic animation to reference the BBC New24 broadcast which is played on this public screen most nights to a mainly homeless and drunk audience."

I like this a lot. I loved which fragments of locals speech was chosen to be illuminated on the screen, indeed every word of the blind woman being put on screen was a great comment on what the woman is talking about - that she is constantly trying to recognise things, pick things out to understand. This could be done in any city but I loved it that it was Manchester. Can't wait to see more!

For a film about being partially blind, this is ironically visually stunning. An interesting document and wonderful motion design. "People have different wobbles", Brilliant!!

Loved the editing, very nice and helped the story and the film as a whole brilliantly. It's a great idea and I think you pulled it off well.
