synopsis
Emily is a mid-twenties nurse, set in her ways and content with her structured world. She covets her studio apartment and its peacefulness.

Jay is a free-wheeling musician, loud, spontaneous and uncomfortable. When the pair finds themselves living on opposite sides of the same wall, a clash is inevitable.

The constant sounds of Emily and Jay through the wall proves at first an irritation. Neither is emotionally equipped to confront the other, and so the frustration is played out in noise alone.

They become increasingly drawn to each other’s antics; intrigued even. They begin communicating, playing and joking through the wall. But after a terrible aural misunderstanding, the silence is deafening, and someone has to break the barrier...
short fact
"The idea for Mono came when writer/director Richard Smith found himself inadvertently communicating through the wall with the girl next door..."

Really sweet, beautifully edited and performed, a lovely subtle piece that keeps you watching with the will they/won't they plot. It's a pretty standard rom/com sit/com situation but the minimal dialogue script and direction elevate it into something more tender than cliche, good work four stars!

Lovely. Really sweet. Had echoes of Amelie in it, which I love.

Disappointing. It had something that kept me watching but I felt it lacked the mystery that makes a good drama.

I first watched this film late one night & it just totally drew me in. It has such a simplicity about it yet, you can see how thoughtful every shot & scene is ..and really does grip you and I'm sure anyone who watches it will find it leaves you with a really warm emotion. I'd recommend this film to anybody. So give it a watch & sit back & appreciate the direction, acting and just the overall whole stunning package
