Your average computer-generated animation costs roughly the same as the GDP of a small Third World country. Not Cory Edwards' Hoodwinked. Made for a mere $8 million, the American pic takes liberties with Red Riding Hood to produce a witty and refreshing animation which grossed over $50m in the US alone. The actual animation may not be as sharp as the humour - it's definitely not going to be mistaken for a Pixar movie - but most eight-year-olds won't be complaining.

Indiana-born Edwards makes his directorial debut on the film, squeezing into the director's chair with brother Todd. The duo also co-wrote the movie, while Cory also played the role of a hyperactive squirrel, Twitchy. To prove just how much the venture was an Edwards Brothers film, the siblings also wrote the film's (surprisingly good) soundtrack.

In the video Cory offers his tips on how you can make a CGI cartoon for a minimal budget, and shows that you don't need to be Disney to compete in this arena.

Hoodwinked is released in UK cinemas on Friday 29th September 2006.
