synopsis
The World Gurning Championship takes place every September in the tiny town of Egremont in the North West of England. As far as anyone knows the competition dates back to 1267. The film shows the highs and lows of this tremendously daft contest.*Featuring Michaela Strachan from the BBC.

Found the lighting lacked detail in places but good subject and well presented angle on the BBC story

A very weak subject.

This was a really good doc, capturing what is effectively a great old British subculture with great affection and without patronising the participants. Did you see any of the Folk Archive at the Barbican a few years back? That had a similar approach to gurning as something intrinsic to northern culture, not something that's just "weird"

Is there anything out there without a world championship? A worthy addition to the genre and a lot more entertaining than Formula 1.
