Curb Fags In Films?

A Liverpool group against smoking, Smoke Free, say that films showing people smoking cigarettes should be classified as an 18 certificate.

Would this make those films more cool and appealing to impressionable and rebellious teenagers?

Did watching Train Spotting make you want to shoot heroin? Or the film Some Like It Hot turn youngs boys who watched it into transvestites?

If this is the case, should all films (and cartoons some to think of it - poor Top Cat) showing guns, booze and violence also be classified 18?

Personally, I'd be tempted to slap a ban on all films that are overly sanitised with a narrow minded view from overly zealous, overly critical, health obsessed, self-righteous bigots!!!

Fondly remembering great films like The Great Escape (sorry jonah ;-) ) that had just about everything 'wrong' about it but, in my opinion, is still a great film.

No. Just bring an actors work place into line with other down trodden places of work like the public houses.

Pom just had to step off the pavement to pass the crowd of smokers outside the Red Lion. Choice - get run over or lung cancer from passive smoking. <yikes> the latter is a bit of a slow, suffering death!

I presume that the message of 'Smoking is not good for you' has got through to over 18 year olds.

<yikes> Should Pom be allowed to watch the film of her favourite childhood book. Seems to remember her Mum saying that she wished my Dad used a cigarette holder like Cruella's

If an 18 cert should apply to films / programmes showing smokers smoking, then the same should apply to alcohol.

That said, its a completely daft concept. Children who's parents smoke are subjected to it every day ........ even if the smoker parent has their fag outside in the garden.

And what about people smoking ciggies in the street? Is this to be banned too?

The world is slowly but surely going quite mad.

I think that Telford Magistrate had the overspill of smokers in mind when she sentenced Pom. <biggrin>

Whoops Astro. Many apologies if they are required. Pom is accustommed to her boobs (not the Holly ones)

Do you know Dave? I never picked up one of my brothers James Bond books and if I have watched one of the films it was inadvertent.
You realise V.T. will now have to come on to slag off Jeremy Clarkson.

Pom started watching Top Gear after, inadvertently watching that episode of the Lake race. Hadn't laughed so much in my life.

jonah

the thought of him tootling along on his bike at a steady 60 just doesn't do it somehow does it <laugh>

I was thinking about the Dirty Dozen (another favourite film of mine) and realised I might be at risk of impersonating an officer and trying to steal a vehicle (granted an armoured tank but let's see the rush hour get out of my way when it sees me coming <devil>
