I know it's based in London, but the Olympics are meant to be an event for the whole country. As such I feel it is necessary to register my disgust at such a poor quality design. There are already petitions demanding the scrapping of the design. What do others think? Good, bad or downright s***?!

dreadful - I wonder how much they paid for that - my 2 year old could come up with something more original and he would ask for an ice lolly as a fee

Yes - the logo is rubbish - and perhaps it would have been nice to have a nationwide competition to design the logo so people could fee more involved with it all?

As the government stripped Leeds (& Liverpool) of a public transport system in order to upgrade London’s transport links for the Olympics we should have had more of a say than many.

When I read this thread I assumed it was just another general moanathon for the sake of it (all due respect to the OP). Then I looked at the logo. Oh dear. It's even worse than you've all described it! Dreadful. Woeful. Appalling. Etcetera. Etcetera. Etcetera.

If as reported on 5 Live is true it only cost £400,000.<yikes>

You don't get much for nearly half a million quid these days.<whistle>

Saying it's dreadful doesn't help. Please explain what's wrong with it.

I like the way it combines the year with physical movement and that it works in an infinite variety of colours. It also looks different from the bland usual. The tabloids will pillory it but its great and worth every penny.

We could have had something from Chariots of Fire or a picture of Buckingham Palace etc.

Pity that Seb Coe did not put in as much effort when he was an MP in Cornwall.

Spend thousands on marketing something obvious while we can't fund the NHS properly. Marvellous!

Buckingham Palace!

Could you imagine the amount of frothing at the mouth by the PC brigade had they chosen a “British” emblem for the design, let alone a royal one!

So it wasn’t going to happen whilst mayor Ken & his cronies are in charge of this bottomless purse.

The 2012 Logo is the result of the French Nuclear Energy firm that supplies power to the South of England, and it expected to get Government suport to build Nuclear plants in this Country, being made chief sponsor of the games. This firm backed both France and Britain in the run up to make sure it was on the winner. You would expect a British Government to ask a British firm to sponsor its games, but we have a Scotish government and france has always ben an ally of Scotland against England.

Well, the sentiments expressed in the article are all good. I want the Olympics to be 'welcoming, inclusive and diverse'. But I really can't see how the logo is going to achieve that. 80% plus don't like it. But in the democracy we live in, er, tough! In the 'alternative designs' bit, however, I like the bit where David Brent is cited as a possible inspiration!

Reminds me of the message you get from MSN, "to stop auto response type in the letters you see"

Lets hope there's no dyslexic competitors or Bejing is hosting it again.

To echo sentiment expressed; it's crap!

it is trulu awful and jagged edged and rubbish. It is like the equivalent of the unmade bed for the Turner Prize.

This olympic effort is going to take an olympic effort to be ready on time. I think this is a case of 'too many managers and not enough bricklayers'.

We won the bid. Great. The first thing we did was have a trafalgar party. Then we talked about it for a year. Then, incredibly to celebrate the 'one year anniversary' of winning the olympic bid we had another trafalgar party. Like there's some significance in celebrating the one year in which we did sweet F.A.

This is turning into another dome isn't it?

Have you seen the font that is being used for the additional writing with the logo. The word LONDON is quite easy to read. However the same font was used by Lloyds TSB this morning in one of their adverts (they are the main sponsor) and I honestly had to strain my eyes to read what it said.

I see the red-tops have started speculating about the armies of eastern european prostitutes that will be coming over here during the olympics to serve the sick and perverted base needs of olympic supporters. Given that the average olympic supporters are retired athletes, pensioners and families with young children I suspect demand for these sex workers will be somewhere between zero and non-existant.

The biggest problem with the logo is age. In 2012 its going to look about as relevant as dayglo sports socks are to the world of fashion today.
