Another subject that will now only be taught in Independent Schools.Will the dumbing down of popular exams and the exclusion of challenging ones from council schools leave us with a woefully inadequate knowlege base amongst the poor and underprivileged?

Can't see that it matters. You'd need to be operating on a pretty ethereal level to be worried about Rome Persia Carthage or Troy. Aren't the basics taught at infant level and the phillosophy at Uni?
