John Govier's Late Night Radio Show

William Rodriquez was late for work on September 11th, 2001. If he'd been on time he probably would not be alive today to tell the tale.

He worked as a janitor in the World Trade Center and on the day the planes hit, he helped rescue fifteen people and unlocked doors in the North Tower aiding hundreds of others to escape.

He's thought to be the last man out alive and unaided and he'll be sharing his story - and taking your questions - on John Govier's Late Night Radio Show on Monday 19th February from 10pm.

I have just been reading a book about the second world and didnt realise that over 40 million soldiers and civilians were killed over 2,174 days many in circumstances of extreme cruelty.

Many of the people killed had no name or face only to the loved ones they left behind.

Over 40 million that is a staggering amount of deaths. The British soldiers fought the battle for Britain and you must read some of the stories about their bravery and devotion to their country. It made me feel very sad indeed .

on a cheerful note I look forward to JGs prog with Kev as I am sure many people do

Hi all,

Here's some of the features and guests we've got lined up on the late show:

Alan Jones - our resident astrologer/magician/mindreader (is there anything this man cannot do?) is back on Monday 5th. He'll be telling us what's in the stars for each zodiac sign for the next few weeks and probably bamboozling us with his 'magic on the radio'.

Kev's Club of the Week has moved to a Tuesday and we've widened the remit. Now Kev will be introducing us to people with a common interest, not just from here in the south west, but from around the globe!

He's got some great ones lined up including a group of storm chasers and the UK Vegetarian Society.

As always Thursday just wouldn't be Thursday without a visit from Spotlight's Natalie Cornah for a flick through the what's on diary in Entertainment Cornah.

And we'll be swinging on Friday night (9th) with a visit from Jazz singer Rachel Brand who'll be performing live in the studio - plus there's the second of our 'White Labels' feature.

COMING SOON - I'll be chatting with legendary singer songwriter Joan Armatrading - we'll go stargazing with a new astronomy feature - and we'll be taking the show out for a live broadcast and you'll be invited to join the audience.

That's it for now. JG

This posting has been hidden during moderation because it broke the House Rules in some way.

MONDAY 12th
TV psychic medium Tony Stockwell joins us ahead of his trip to the south west at the end of the month.

TUESDAY 13th
Regular listeners will know that Kev is a vegetarian so it seems appropriate that - in tonight's "Kev's Club of the Week" - he'll be introducing us to the Vegetarian Society of the UK. Plus we'll be joined by David and Maia from the Torbay Investigators of the Paranormal for a look at superstitions.

WEDNESDAY 14th
We meet Clive Purchase from the Callington Space Centre who will be making his first appearance as resident astronomer and - over the weeks and months to come - he'll tell us what to look out for in the night sky.

THURSDAY 15th
Natalie's here for her weekly dip into the what's on diary in "Entertainment Cornah" - plus we meets legendary singer songwriter Joan Armatrading who is currently taking her music to the classroom.

FRIDAY 16th
The White Labels continue as David White introduces us to Jersey band "Benny The Moth" and there's live music in the studio from Exeter singer songwriter Ben Goddard - who describes himself as sounding a bit like "Damien Rice but with more soul!"

Advance Notice:
James Watts is in the hotseat next week (19th - 23rd)

Advance, advance notice:
On May 1st the show will celebrate its first birthday. It will be broadcast live from Screen Two at the Reel Cinema in Plymouth. Listen in to find out how you could be in the audience.

Unfortunately my original message (posted on Saturday) has been hidden by the moderators... but never fear, if you missed Tony Stockwell's interview - you'll be able to listen to it again on my page in the Radio Devon section of the BBC Devon website.

Here's hoping you had a great Easter break. Here's this week's chocolate covered offering...

EASTER MONDAY 9th April:
Clive Purchase, our resident astronomer from Callington Space Centre, returns to let us know what to look out for in the night-time skies this month.
---------

TUESDAY 10th:
In Kev's Club Of The Week we meet Bam; an athlete from URBAN FREEFLOW and learning all there is to know about Parkour.

You may not recognise the name, but you'll probably have seen the activity featured on TV adverts.

Parkour focuses on "uninterrupted, efficient forward motion - over, under, around and through any and every obstacle in your path".

--------------------

WEDNESDAY 11th:
According to the Hearing Dogs' website, nearly nine million of the UK population experience some degree of hearing loss. That’s one person in every seven.

Over 650,000 of these people are severely or profoundly deaf and could benefit from a hearing dog.

Margaret Rogers, the regional fundraiser for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, will be telling us all about its work.

------------------

THURSDAY 12th:
Baton down the hatches and make sure you're wearing your ear-defenders and protective clothing; Thursday night means only one thing - Spotlight's Natalie Cornah joins JG and Kev to flick through the pages of the what's on diary in Entertainment Cornah.

That's what's supposed to happen but, in reality, it usually just descends into chaos!

------------------

FRIDAY 13th:
"The Peoples' String Foundation" was founded in 2005 by Ben Sutcliffe and Zaid Al-Rikabi.

They met on a recording session for a short film and set about writing and recording their project - "Making Waves".

They'll be playing a live acoustic set and chatting about their music.

PLUS it's prize-giving night! All the correct answers from this week's text and email questions will be exchanged for tickets in the tombola. Tune in to find out if you win a prize.
