The site of the first "super-casino" in Britain has been announced and it's coming to Manchester - with the favourites Blackpool and Greenwich missing out.

Ministers have argued that the casino will boost regeneration, but opponents say it will lead to more problem gambling.

The casino is to be sited in east Manchester, which would see a £265m investment and create 2,700 direct and indirect jobs. The complex will also house an entertainment arena, a swimming pool, an urban sports venue, restaurants, bars, a nightclub and a hotel.

So what do you think the casino will mean to Manchester?

Given the amount of social problems and deprivation already present in the grim mill town they could not have picked a better place! <laugh><laugh><laugh>

Mancunians are exactly the sort of gullible people that will easily form gambling addictions so are ideal fodder for such a place.<biggrin>

I do believe it was the gambling comission in Birmingham that awarded this, so well done my friends. Viva Las Vegas in the rain sodden grim mill town!<laugh><laugh><laugh>

I'm very surprised that we got this - I always wanted it to go to Blackpool and I think most people in Manchester did. But if it means more money and regeneration for us then so be it!

Manchester-the vampire city of the North West sucking the lifeblood out of Blackpool, first sucking all the cash for trams, then stealing the conference trade, and now the Super-casino, hopefully the residents in Blackpool wake up and dump the Labour council and the two good for nothing Labour MPs who have been s much use to Blackpool as a chocolate teapot.

That mite eb the case but ask the people of Manchester where they would have thought it would be better going and Most will likely say Blackpool. I know I think that would have been a better place to put it so it could help with the regneration they want to do. I'm suprised we have it and tbh I don't really want it here.

AS for Rob, you really are getting boring now. At first it was amusing someone was that dim and dumb but now I'm really starting to believe it.

Oh i forgot Blackpool also seems to be housing all your trash, evicted council tenants and your care in the community cases to make your vampire city more chic for the champagne socialists.

Great news for Manchester!!! First the BBC, now the UK’s first super casino – it’s been a great couple of weeks in Manchester. The amount of money which will be pumped into East Manchester as a result of this will be vast. Regeneration, employment, investment – it will all happen. Plus Manchester is already one of the top tourist destinations in the UK – this will only boost this further.

I hear Rob_wrong is now on suicide watch as a result of the BBC andm now this.... Looks like we’re having more than the last laugh Brummy boy!

Dwaine, if you want to go and have a look at what a large scale casino looks like in a UK inner city industrial zone, go and have a look at Star City in Birmingham (currently the UK's largest I think). It's known locally as 'Stab City' and is avoided by the vast majority of local Brummies. With it being well away from the city centre like Eastlands it simply doesn’t work as a destination and adds no character to the city itself. If you're expecting Vegas you'll be seriously disappointed!

I can genuinely say in this case I'm glad Birmingham didn't get it. I do however think Blackpool was the right location and this was a very strange decision and no doubt corrupted in some way.

So Blackpool's ills are Manchester's fault? Of course they are.....<doh>

Yet another talker of crap on the Manchester board.

Eastlands is probably only a mile outside the city centre, already well served by buses, this will just increase in the future.
Please don't try and compare Birmingham's "Stab City" (as you refer to it) to Manchester....thought Brum was all sweetness and light, yet you have somewhere known as Stab City! Hypocrisy in action, I believe.

But there will be a smaller casino built in Solihull, not that far away from Brum, is it? I like the way your dangerously paranoid mind automatically assumes that there is some sort of corruption going on, a bit like you jumping to conclusions about rigged voting on the "2nd City" poll!<biggrin>

And this poster can't accept compliments. I said I thought Blackpool would have been a lot better for so many reasons and he still belittles Manchester.

Theres 50 miles between the 2 places and a lot of 'not so nice' areas in between. I'm sure if Manchester palmed all it's undesirables off then a lot of them wouldn't be in Blackpool.

[sarcasm]You'd have thought that fresh sea air would make them happy, obviously not[/sarcasm]

Hopefully soon Lancashire cricket will move to where it belongs, and that's back in Lancashire.

Manchester the Vampire City??? For years Blackpool has been taking money from Tourists and putting nothing back in. You go to Blackpool and it's overpriced, its dirty and the standard of accomodation is poor. No wonder the number of tourists visiting Blackpool is falling year on year. I think its great that Manchester has been chosen as the site for the UK's first super casino..... He's to another addition to this great and wonderful city!

Good luck to all of Manchester and surrounding areas. Regeneration and job opportunities is no bad thing plus there is an added bonus.

Manchester 1 - London 0
