How do you make them go away, politely?

I foolishly opened the door this morning to two (apparent)parents and a 8 year old girl in a sort of party dress all carrying zip up bibles. They wanted to enable me to have a full and spiritual life followed by redemption in the next and my notion of 'full' did not coincide and they could not accept that I could believe that there is no god.And that if there were it was least likely to be theirs. 50 minutes, three pints of tea and a packet of chocolate digestives later they left me to complete cooking lunch very sad that neither side had realigned.Should I have just told them to clear off?

If you aren't interested then don't engage with them. A polite 'No thank you' should suffice. Don't hesitate when you close the door.

There is a very clever mpeg on the net of an atheist calling door to door in one of the cities in Utah. Very funny.

These people are only doing what they believe is right. If you are not interested in anything they have to say just tell them politly and they will normally leave. If you are a Catholic, Jewish or a Born Again Christian they will have no interest in you, so tell them. If you want to engage them be sure you know your Bible because otherwise they will tie you in knots. The best way to talk to them is to give them your testimony....they can't argue with that.

Yes just politely say no thank you, I am amazed that you let them in, ever remember what Jasper Carrott said?

I have often found thet they have left me the brochures when I get home from work, I often think we should get them in to talk to our prisoners.

Regardless of your belief a pentagon works; they won't knock or pass a thresh covered by it.

Happens to have a lot of religious meanings, but it also happens to be used in magic and Satanism.

Poormans garlic <biggrin>

Oh and if you let them in once; they will be back!

Answer the door wearing nothing but a large smile and invite them in to discuss nudism.
When they call the cops explain that you were only wearing the outfit that nature issued to you.
Also explain to them that if they object to you being naked, they are showing a lack of respect for their Gods wonderful design of the human body.

Ask them about Dinosaurs and where they fit into gods scheme and then offer them a leaflet from the Blood Transfusion Service. I generaly find this has them running for the hills.
Failing that answer the door naked with a chicken in one hand and a knife in the other and ask them if they have come to the sacrifice.

Did you mean pentagon or did you mean a pentangle?

I suppose you could say that of all beliefs Willcove, but there are a few things that don't add up where the JW's are concerned. They have their own version of the bible....very like the King James, but they have altered it....just one word here and one word there...but it makes the text read completely different. They believe only 144,000 of us are going to heaven, and when you think of the billions and billions of people who have lived on earth from day one none of us would seem to have much chance of getting there. It's a good example of how they have changed the wording of the Bible. They have also given 2 specific dates for the end of the world. Both dates came and went and we're still here.
All religions have their own beliefs, and that's fine. The problem is JW's are out there in the field doing what other religions don't....evangelising, and vunerable people are being taken in by them.

I wonder if all their heavenly slots are full already?

When religous extremists knock on our door, they are met in a civilised manner. Then informed that "This a gay home", they are inclined to depart very quickly.

Interesting they have come to the understanding of respect. Their again the poor loves are indoctrinated, so what they don't understand they must respect! ( shame really!)

Dauntless, you missed the bit where the 144,000 are celebate men, so female JW's, according to their own translation, aren't going to the promised land.

By the way Bazza, did you mean 'extremist'?

Having them in for a dish of tea and an hour or two's banter is a public service. It uses up the evangelists' time and stops them bothering and disrupting twenty odd other householders.

Tractodoctor...yes your right about them being all men, but I don't think they have to be celebate. I stand corrected if I'm wrong. But I have known married women work night and day evangelising with their husbands to get them into heaven. When you think about it it is such a sad thing....these people are brain-washed.

Its usually two women and a girlchild who call on us. Its the mormons who send round what my mrs calls 'hunky' pairs of male missionaries in matching blue manmade fibre suits and crisp white shirts. if we were't monogamous i'm sure sh'd do more than drool over some of them, all fresh faced and fresh in from Utah.

About 3 or 4 years ago they came on their regular visit to my home. By this time I was well tired of them. At the time I was hanging washing out they had come into the back garden to enlighten my life with their words.

This is how the conversation went.

"Good morning, we are calling on people this morning to........"

I interupted....

"If there is a god, I'm not very impressed" I said

This set them back a bit.

"Oh" the older one said. " would you like us to put you in our book not to call again?" she said

I immediately jumped at the chance.

"Oh yes please, put my address in your book and don't call again thank you". I said politely.

So far for 3 to 4 years this has worked and I have been JW free ever since.

I agree that these people are brainwashed, and their 'brand' of Christianity is not what we Christians follow.

Most Christians believe the Bible to say what it means and mean what it says. The JW's have to some extent re-written the Bible and changed what they cannot agree with and replaced it with something they can!

See Revelation Ch 14, Vs3b and 4.

Hahahaa they are soooo gonna come back again and again, did you tell them your name ?

Stupidly my sister mentioned her name and they kept comming round asking for her.

The even came round on christmass day!

They want you in their cult, people like that wana drag down as many people as they can with them, brain washing basically using scare tactics to make you think you will suffer for all eternity for not beliving in what you do.

I feel sorry for the little girl she probably wont have a knowledgeful life or normal friends. Brain wash um yong it imprints better.

Just tell them to Pee off, sometimes the "were not intrested" approach dosent work.
