fundraising success stories/top tips?

Hello all,

I'm a writer in the process of researching a non-fiction book and I hope I might be able to pick your brains! The book is about how small groups can raise big money for charity, and it aims to help small groups such as brownie groups, schools, church groups and similar to raise funds for the project it is they are trying to help with - be it a new roof for the church hall, funds for a local hospice, or whatever.

A chunk of the book will be a sort of sourcebook, with lots of ideas for original as well as tried and tested events and ways to raise cash.

As part of this, I'm collecting success stories, tips, ideas and things that didn't work so well. I'd love to hear your experiences? What has worked for you and why? What went wrong, or what would you do differently next time? How did you find approaching local media or businesses? Was it easier or harder than you expected? How much money did you raise, and for what? What did you learn along the way that might help others?

Thanks so much in advance.
