I didn't say they might not know about the ban - I was saying they probably haven't yet realised how much cleaner and more pleasant the atmosphere is as a result of the ban. There's a difference!

So why were they calling for a ban then? They wanted to ban smoking because they thought the atmosphere in pubs would be dirtier and less pleasant?

Let's get this right Olemaverick. I'm a non smoker who is totally against any ban of smoking. I think that this anti smoking campaign is a conspiracy by the tobacco Barons - fear that people may stop using their product if it is left for people to make up their own minds whether to smoke or not. If it is so harmful to your health why do so many health professionals smoke? I'll tell you why they do. Because they are in a stressful job! They know it helps them to stay calm.

For Heaven's sake, SMOKING PUTS BLOOD PRESSURE UP! It CAUSES stress! Don't try to pull that one!

Did your blood pressure rise whilst typing that, Wirral?

Always managed to avoid ITS effects even when father was chain smoking.

My Dad's never smoked. His Dad did, yet he always said to him not to start. Fortunately, by the time he was old enough the message was getting through loud and clear about the health risks, which meant he never started.

Quoted from this message

My Dad has four younger sisters and the youngest was only two when their Dad died. His natural mother died in 1960 and his Dad married again the following year - his second mother's still going strong though, in fact she's a great-grandma!
