Then surely the same question applies to JoP, yet he seems tormented by the mere existence of gay people.

This appears to have made him thoroughly vindictive, perhaps the same is true of ths couple.

It seems to me that religions of every sort give followers reason to hate....and for pretty much anything.

The more I discover about this the more reasonable it seems to have been for this couple to have been spoken to as they were.Did the officers keep any detailed notes of the exchange?

I agree, I expect the police officers conserned thought a telling off would do, and were not as thorough with their note taking as they should have been, leaving themselves little deffence against alligations from angry bigoted arrogant sad little old people.

Perhaps the BBC could invite them back onto the Today programme to explain properly to Humphrys why they took their action and hold their homophobic views. They were on briefly last week to explain how they got the money but not to justify their revolting and repulsive views.

A local evangelical church has a notice board with gnomic thoughts. Recently we have been subjected to 'Pray till something happens' and 'What would Jesus do?'.

If this couple reflected on those thoughts they would firstly discover that there would be no devine guidance that they should hawk intolerance and hatred and secondly that on the strength of the New Testament accounts of Jesus' behaviour he would have treated gays and other diverse groups no differently than anyone else. No braying at Mary Magdelene.
A young Christian Couple, distributing leaflettes about the abomination of homosexuality received an appoligy from the Police for harrasment and granted damages and costs. The Police, it seems, were acting on a 'Political Correct' inspired order that was to prevent persons handing out 'Antigay' leaflettes.
This is a Christian belief, Homosexuality is an abominable act and they have the 'right of free speech' to express that belief without harresment. As in the incident at the Cenotaph

Adminishing sinners is a perfectly legitimate activity for church people to undertake.

Arguably, it is the loss of any national religious consensus over the past 40 years or so that has facilitated the degeneration of the nation.

To sin is to break a gods law. Since there is no such thing, in reality, as a god there can be no sins.

Then as a non church person it must be perfectly legitimate for me to admonish church people for promulgating untruths.

Your observations regarding degeneration of the nation, as an outsider are interesting. This degeneraton coincides with the rapid expansion of the finance industry.

Perhaps thats the problem.

It all depends on what you mean by "God", doesn't it? If you mean some sort of supranatural, all powerful being such as YHWH then I would agree that he doesn't exist. However, there are other conceptions of "God" (such as the "Anthropos" of some Gnostic Christian groups) which postulate God as being some intrinsic quality within human beings. Sin is thus behaviour inappropriate to the nature of that essence. The responsibility people have is to undertake the difficult task of seeking that Being within themselves for it is there(and not in some external place) that both God and His Kingdom exist (as Jesus indicated, the Kingdom is so near and yet so far).

Then as a non church person it must be perfectly legitimate for me to admonish church people for promulgating untruths.

Yes, you are of course free to behave in accord with your own conscience and its beliefs. The real trick is to know that those beliefs are actually correct - Gnostics would tell you that you know them when you realise them. If you have not deeply considered your own true nature then you could be promulgating false belief (or heresy).

Your observations regarding degeneration of the nation, as an outsider are interesting. This degeneraton coincides with the rapid expansion of the finance industry.

Are you metaphorically pulling my tail (as a gorilla I obviously don't have one to pull), Dumpling - outsider indeed! I am as British as you are and, my boardname notwithstanding, a human being!

This is a case of chicken and egg, Dumpling. Why has the finance industry expanded - because the demand was generated for it in the first place. The existence of the Finance Indutry is a reflection of Society, not the other way around. Sorry to disappoint, but those of us in finance are not guilty of "Original Sin")!

If I disagree with someone or something I am free to broardcast my disagreement. (exept, it seems, if it is against Blair, when I will be arrested under the terrorist Act)
It would appear, these persons were stating their disagreement with a state of affairs, a member of the local Council, probably from the left, made a formal complaint to the Police. We know the Police now are either 'Egg heads' with no common sence or CPOs with little training, to whom an stupid complaint from a 'Councilor', and not being a crime, had to be dealt with. The whole affair shows how corupt and stupid our socalled police service has become.

Joker, the money went to Charity. To my mind had the Police not backed down, a lot more Public money would have been tranfered.

This couple needed a night or two in the local lock up to teach them a thing or two about the real world.

To what point ?

Hate leads to violence, violence leads to killing. Be larger scale, war.

If you feel that is the best route to take then so be it, but hardly Christian is it.

What exactly do these so called men of god think they are going to achieve anyway. Nothing! negative energy. Sad people indeed, you should join them JOP you would fit in.

4x2, you are, as I have told you many time, an abonination, as are all who indulge in the practice. These people were unlawfully harrased by the Police, and all your screaming, and that of others will not change things.
