Nottingham East Midlands Airport have said that changing the name from East Midlands Airport to Nottingham East Midlands Airport has not been as successful as they would have hoped.

Indicators show that many people preferred the airport's original name.

So should Nottingham East Midlands Airport be changed back to East Midlands Airport?

I dont care, as long as bl00dy Nottingham pays for the policing and takes all the flight paths across its county.

No they should not
The airport is closer to Derby and is paid for by the rate payers in Leicestershire!!
If Nottingham want their name on there, make them pay for the police and fire cover
Otherwise, lets have it back as East Midlands Airport for the 3 counties
(well 4 if you count us in Rutland who also pay towards the police and fire!!)

Also, I have never ever flown again from NEMA so there is quite a few thousand pounds off their budget. And i know plenty of other companies that did the same
If they change it back to East Midlands with an appology to Derby and leicester folk, I would return

I live with 5 miles of Nottingham EMA and it's actually IN LEICESTERSHIRE!!!!

Nottingham Council and Nottingham tax payers SHOULD to pay for the adjioning roads, support services amongst other things then feel free!

East Midlands Airport serves all adjioning counties not just Nottingham!

Well you could call it NOTTINGHAM EMA 'The GUNCRIME Capital of England' and then see how much tourism you get!!!

There is no doubt whatsoever that the airport is actually in Leicestershire - although it has a Derby postcode, Derby address and Derby phone number. The original name change to NEMA served no useful purpose at all and only alienated people and businesses (including mine) in Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

I do not think it should be NEMA - but equally I disagree with a Derby or Leicester label being attached to its name.

This airport survived, grew and developed perfectly well for decades as East Midlands and there is no earthly reason why it cannot continue to do so. And I believe most people still refer to it as East Midlands.

These name changes cost a lot of money in terms of research, marketing and 'furniture' - though I doubt the Nottingham label by itself has increased revenue sufficiently to recover the original costs of the change to NEMA.

So my personal advice to the management is not to spend another penny on consultation about the name and not to be held to ransom by local councils or companies threatening to withdraw support if they don't get their own way.

Be brave and bold and change it back to how it was. It was loved and respected as EMA - so now allow it to grow, breathe and prosper with the name by which it is best known and which represents and satisfies the largest number of people.

Long live East Midlands Airport.

There really is nothing to decide on this.
"NEMA" was SUCH A massive own-goal!
The management should swallow their pride and be done with it.
Put it back to how it was. And stop trying to redraw the map of England - or whatever they arrogantly thought they were trying to do.
And if the Chief Executive wants to keep his job he'd better make the admission that he made a mistake a good and clear one. He has wasted a lot of people's time and money for no reason at all. He should be ashamed.

There is no dought in my mind that the only logical name for the airport is East Midlands Airport. The reason behind changing the name to Nottingham East Midlands Airport is ridicules. If someone does not know where an airport is they only have to ask. I never knew where Gatwick was until someone told me. The sooner it is changed back to East midland Airport the better.

If people are interested in the name telling foreign travellers where the airport is then why not call it '120 miles north of London Airport'?

If you were flying in to England from another country you would never find the International Airport in Nottingham.
The logic behind East Midlands Airport was that it could be found towards the East of the Middle of Britain, what could be more simple than that in any language.

To be perfectly honest with you i have lived in derby all my life and i have NEVER called the east midlands airport nottingham east midlands so why the hell should a towns name infront of the rest of the name make a blind bit of difference. i think its an argurement over nothing. why should a name prevent people flying out from the airport i think you're all being childish over it.

It needs to be all encompassing and incorporate all three major counties/cities in the East Midlands.

It should be called Peter Shilton International Airport as he played in each of the three major cities in the region.

Get a grip on reality!

It's an airport, planes fly in to it, people board these planes, the planes then take off and take you to whatever hot/cold, glorious/pitiful place you wish to go to.

Call it grim grubby plane place if you like it makes no difference to the level of service you receive there, the places you can go, the cost of your flights etc...

I personally think it should stay as Nottingham East Midlands, however, i didn't think it required a name change in the first place, but it got one, so why waste more money, time and effort turning the region in to a laughing stock because the people in charge can't make their minds up! (I'm assuming the team that implemented the name change in the first place won't be losing their jobs for this failure in whatever it was they were hoping to achieve hey?!)

As for international visitors to the region, Iím hoping since they are coming here most of them know what attractions are in there area, or where it is to start with, but for the rest I think Nottingham is certainly the most Ďfamousí of the three major cities in the region, so it makes sense if any city was to have be used as a reference then Nottingham to be.

I think changing the name of the airport upset and alienated a huge amount of the populations of both Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and people no longer the associate themselves, or have any pride in their local airport.
From a commercial point of view I do not think it is neccessarily a disavantage if people from abroad, who are looking for weekends or holidays know exactly where the east midlands is they will already have an idea from the word midlands and will then explore the region, and see that it is close to the peak district, charnwood forest etc, and not be potentially put off by the fact it is close to Nottingham.
The sooner they change it back the better

Unfountunatley Nottingham is the most famous but sadly down to the fact that their terrible gun culture and violence keeps appering on national television. If i were travelling in from abroad i dont think i would want to land at an airport with a name known for murders and gun crime. Would You? East Midlands was fine as it was and they should never have changed it in the first place!

Why donít they call it

East Midlands Airport
(serving Nottingham, Derby, Leicester)

Then everyone should be happy.

When on holiday in Sicily, I found the locals hadn't heard of Derby, but they all know of Nottingham. The only thing they know about it is it's associated with Robin Hood. They certainly don't know where it is, so saying the original name change was to help foreigners know where they are flying to was wrong. I think it was just someone at British Midland trying to think of something new, rather than something useful.

Changing the airport's name to Nottingham East Midlands was very unpopular with people of Derby and Leicester. Derby originally owned the airport like Nottingham has its own airport.

If the name is to be changed to something other than East Midlands why not name it after Sir Henry Royce or Frank Whittle, after all we would not have an airport if these men had never lived!
