The North East is at the heart of what was once the Kingdom of Northumbria. I would like to see the name Northumbria used more often as an alternative name for our region.

There is an ongoing campaign to have the Lindisfarne Gospels brought home from the British Library in London, a city with which this greatest of Northumbrian treasures has no historical connection whatsoever.

The education system does nothing to tell people about our unique place in the world, so to try and redress the balance a little bit I have created my own website which I have called "The Pride of Northumbria".

If we wait for the people in authority down south to recognise our distinctive heritage we will be waiting a very long time.

It is time we did more to promote ourselves and our unique place in Great Britain and the wider world.
