In an attempt to raise money to buy new records, I decide to sell some old ones. I calculate that I can raise over £150 by floating my neglected LPs at the Amazon marketplace. I travel home and fill two bags with my favourite adolescent anthems, and without a trace of nostalgia begin to assign prices to each album. This process takes approximately one hour.

But in searching through those albums that no longer feel relevant, I find myself dusting off old classics that are more pertinent than ever. I'm pleased to find an edition of In the Court of the Crimson King lying quietly between REM and Radiohead. I remain repulsed and strangely fascinated by its grotesque cover image, a Munchian yell of existential terror, and feel a sudden urge to read the liner notes.
