comment by rowan Jan 30, 2008We're sorry to announce that Collective is closing.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported the site since it launched. From 2002 - 2008, Collective brought coverage of the most exciting new music, art, film, books and games to people in search of fresh culture in Britain. We aimed to celebrate genuine creativity and bring underground talent to the BBC's audience. We've been privileged to host intelligent comment about popular arts, culture and society in general for almost six years, and occasionally been able to help our community of users in creative collaborative projects. At its height Collective had around 250,000 dedicated users.
From 15th Feb 08 we will no longer editorially update Collective. In the coming weeks we will also be closing the ability for users to make contributions to the site, and will confirm the date of this as soon as we can.
Very best wishes to you all - The Collective Team
comment by Niall-W Jan 30, 2008Shame.
Well, goodbye folks it was great speaking with you all.
comment by sunsetbeach Jan 30, 2008Bloody hell. Gutted, shocked. Gutted *and* shocked. This is an excellent, not to mention very useful, site and has been for years. It will be sorely missed. And now I'll *never* get a chance to use proper italics here! But that's by the by.
A dark day.

its too early to ask questions like where do we go now and will our stuff still be archived and accessible here. i'll just mourn a while.
E mail me some addresses of similar sites that you guys would recommend as I'm new to the internet.
Cheers guys and gals.
Quick! Read em before they disappear forever...
comment by iamlloyd Jan 30, 2008ah pants.
I've only been a member for 5 weeks (1 review - Okami, quick check it out), and was looking forward to some great video game debates.
comment by sunsetbeach Jan 30, 2008I've hit the gin and for once it isn't taking the pain away. I hope Rowan and the rest of the team have other things to go to! Best of luck you guys! You made something good here, well done.

The end of a true institution, as far as I'm concerned.
comment by amir Jan 30, 2008I knew it.
I've said not so long ago that this was the case.
Gutted. Especially because 300+ interviews of mine are going to be lost...
comment by amir Jan 30, 2008Oh, and don't forget the Facebook group!!!
comment by lovemunkey187 Jan 30, 2008Can't say I'm surprised.
Most of the other messageboards on the BBC have closed, and don't imagine the 606 and the remaining ones will be long before they are closed too.
Ah well, looks like I'm going to have to actually do some work of a night from now on.
Hope to see a couple of you on LIVE(when I get my shiznit together)
comment by Captain Neville - ScouseBuster Jan 31, 2008Truly shocking.
Just like the BBC to stop doing something they were actually half decent at...
comment by TheNewSpink Jan 31, 2008It is a shame - I suppose I'm not too surprised though.
But hey - it's been fun, I've not found another message board anywhere with the same atmosphere.
comment by Crimson_Blade Jan 31, 2008Im gutted!!!!
Well what do I do now first they closed the film messageboards, which I near enough lived on lol now this, is there going to be anywhere else on the BBC website where we can chat as ive only got limited access at work
comment by sirbobwallett Jan 31, 2008See if you can get the c4 website. they have loads of forums and a general discussion site.
