comment by Luke Reilly Apr 7, 2006A debate has arisen in our office.....is it correct to call a broadcast download on an mp3 player - a podcast........? The argument goes that strictly speaking this should be limited to downloads onto apple computer products......yet it is clear that common usage is suggesting that a podcast is a genric term........any views?

comment by claire-aralli Apr 10, 2006It stems from America, where 'podcast' rhymes with 'broadcast'. The pod bit does originate with the Apple product (I myself have a Nano), but it's also become a generic term and can be considered without the iPod connotations.
A pod is a self-contained little thing, right? And this is a pod (self-contained) broadcast ...
comment by Spinky Apr 10, 2006Isn't the key feature of a podcast the fact that you set it up to automatically download to your pod whenever you're online and the new edition of said podcast available? A broadcast you have to download manually.
