The Good Thief
Hereís Nick Nolte as we like to see him, a rangy old stray sniffing out a fix in deadbeat bars in the south of France. Heís shooting up and passing out in a urinal before the film has even begun. In this semi-remake of Bob Le Flambeur (1955), Nolte plays Bob, a down-at-heel gambler at the sharp end of a losing streak. Heís planning a heist at a casino, but thereís a traitor amongst his confidants. The film is flawed but, like Nolte himself, itís cool enough to carry it off. Wendy Ide 07 March 03
