Must Trier harder.

Last night I dreamt I went to Dogville again…only Danish agitator Lars von Trier’s second pseudo-Brechtian, America-baiting satire, here skewering slavery, liberal guilt and gun-barrel democracy, lacks some of his previous outing’s acuity and nightmarish humour. Plucky Bryce Dallas Howard replaces La Kidman as heroine Grace, but she’s left exposed by von Trier’s smug grandstanding and low-wattage casting; surely half the fun of watching a bare stage is seeing it patrolled by big stars – from Hollywood, USA, Lars.
