You dig? Over in trench two, Tony Robinson and his merry band of longhairs are diggin’ the metal classical hybrid forged by a bunch of bonkers US visionaries with a penchant for dressing as Roman soldiers... Yep, this LP is groovy like archaeology, man. Cello-fat opener, The Century Trilogy I: Conquest, Empire’s Iron Man-esque groans and Prelude To The Fall’s gentle melodies cry out for David Lynch to film a loopy biblical epic around this LP. With dramatic soundscapes and grandiose pomp a gogo, Book Of Sand – which also features CocoRosie and Devendra Banhart – occasionally loses the plot, and the listener, but has to be loved for its sheer ambitionTarantula AD – Book Of Sand, released 20 February 06 on Kemado.
