Just another Manchester indie band?

listeninterview with overtone's gareth beirne

It sometimes feels like you can't move for indie bands in Manchester, but into the crowded marketplace has come another bunch of young hopefuls who think they've got what it takes to be the next Oasis.

Overtone are already showing Oasis tendencies, having lost their bass player just after Christmas and only days before a showcase gig to promote their Fade In Time EP. But despite the setback, guitarist Gareth Beirne is upbeat about the group's future.

Overtone played 18 gigs across the North of England in 2002, including most of the main spots on the Manchester circuit.

Coming up on 22 January is the band's third visit to the late room at Life Café. Well worth checking out if out want to see the lads before they start playing stadiums. That's if they can find another bass player, eh Gareth? Ed Swinden 16 January 03

Overtone play Life Café on Peter St. with Pollen, Flynn and Strange Days in support, 22 January 03, £3
