Your musings and mutterings on our albums of the year list.
Last week we published our albums of the year around a flurry of “list happy” activity in Collective’s community. This is a short and hopefully sweet summary of your comments and suggestions. The most controversial album on our list proved to be DJ Shadow’s The Private Press, which many thought a disappointment after the acclaimed Endtroducing… Collective agrees that it’s not up to the standard of its predecessor but we reckon it’s still worth a listen. There were, however, general thumbs ups for The Flaming Lips, The Cinematic Orchestra, The Streets and Free Association albums. Contenders that we failed to “big up” include R2J2, Cornelius, Malcolm Middleton, Sigur Rós, Lambchop and Mint Royale. Groovypanda also pointed out that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s album came out on 16 December 2001, so it shouldn’t strictly be a 2002 album of the year. However, we thought it deserved a mention since it was lost in the Christmas rush. So then, anymore corkers we might have missed? Matt Walton 12 December 02
