The Raveonettes – Attack Of The Ghost Riders (Sony)
These Danish garage rockers are worth taking notice of. This is their first single, with an album due next year. Fronted by the hushed vocal tones of a winning boy/girl combo, they definitely have something about them. And I don’t just mean a good-looking lady playing bass. Cut with the traditional tailoring of Blondie, The Ramones and Depeche Mode, they also have that fresh rock-meets-electro angle that seems to be making New York a cool place.
The video’s banned from daytime TV but we’ve got it here for you to watch (if you’re not too squeamish).

The Caesars – Fun And Games EP (Virgin)
Proper indie tunes from new Swedish hopefuls, The Caesars. Actually they’ve been knocking about Stockholm for a while and have released three albums over there, but nowt here. Their British debut is planned for next year but, in the meantime, The Fun And Games EP will keep us occupied. And it’s good too, sounding a bit like Gene with more talent and a more cheerful outlook on life, with lyrics like, “You’ve got ears just like Dumbo, it’s so sweet/Your knees knock together when you walk down the street.” The best chat up line since, “You don’t sweat much for a fat biffer.” What charmers.
Mum & Dad – Easypeasy/Animal In Towns (Twisted Nerve)
This double A-side is the second single to be taken from their debut album, released back in the spring. Mum & Dad apparently live in a concrete pyramid and it’s from there that they produce their sugary offbeat melodies. Easypeasy is a reworked version of the one on the album and Animals In Town is a stomping new track that for some reason makes me want to skip. And I’ve never been one for skipping, so it must be good.
Metro Area – Dance Reaction (Source)
One of New York dance duo Metro Area’s newest tracks, for the first time available on vinyl. Taken from their recent self-titled debut, it comes back with a DFA remix of Orange Alert. They also record as LCD Soundsystem, and are responsible for the production on The Rapture and Radio 4 albums. Dance Reaction grooves along at an even tempo, mixing real instrumentation like Rhodes piano with electronic strings and Prince-style stabs. A good one for the dancefloor. Matt Walton 05 December 02
