No excess baggage. Security Screenings was apparently inspired by Scott Herren’s frustration with airport security procedures, although with 17 tracks in 40 minutes he gets through things much quicker than most customs officials. A return to instrumental cut-up hip-hop after the vocal collaborations of 2005’s Surrounded By Silence, this mini album sometimes feels as if it’s thrown together like quickly-packed luggage. But the mutating beats and melodies of the wonderful Matriminoids show that Herren hasn’t forgotten any of the things that mean he should still write “visionary producer” under “occupation” on his immigration form. Prefuse 73 - Security Screenings, released 06 February 06 on Warp.
