boards of canada 'twoism'

Scottish duo re-release their ultra rare
seminal debut.

Would you pay £800 for a piece of vinyl which had a limited run of only 100 pressings? No? Well apparently that amount of money has changed hands for Boards Of Canada’s first mini-album Twoism, released on their own label, Music 70, in 1996. Since then the band have released several EPs, signed to Warp Records and released two proper albums, Music Has The Right To Children and Geogaddi.

Now Marcus Eoin and Mike Sandison have allowed Warp to re-release Twoism, as long as the release is low key. “We’d rather people find our music by themselves, so that it’s something that feels like it belongs to them,” they say. So is it worth the fuss?

Well yes, although not (in my opinion) 800 quid. Twoism is typical BOC stuff - a collection of minimalist lo-fi brooding soundscapes, a bit like a rainy winter’s evening. It has a soundtrack quality to it, which explains why their music has recently been used on Warp’s Morvern Callar soundtrack. And it should keep the fans from baying a Warp’s door.
