Big Dada's Parisian b-boys are in already denial. And it's only their first LP. The press release attached to the debut album from French hip-hoppers TTC, claims they 'don't try to be original, they simply aspire to be honest. Or kinda honest anyway'. And despite not understanding a word of their debut Ceci N'est Pas Un Disque, you can kinda see what they mean. These guys are obviously having some fun. They're probably making some very eloquent observation about French culture. They might be making jokes about people who don't understand French. The point is it really doesn't matter: the voices of the three MCs are so full of character and the instrumentation so tight and abstract that you become enchanted by these French geezers shouting at you anyway. And even if they don't try to be innovative, they sure come close. Apparently their first single was about a superhero, vegetables and a detailed description of the Paris metro... Not everybody's bottle of plonk but tres bien. MW 31 May 02 Ceci N'est Pas Un Disque is released on 06 May on Big Dada Records. useful link: bigdada.com The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
