Doves - Pounding (Heavenly)
The anthem of the summer: majestic, glorious and, erm, pounding. The standout track from The Last Broadcast, Doves have obviously gone and decided that things aren't so bad after all. Thumping great drums with drifting, sun-drenched production which builds until you're powerless to resist stomping your foot in time. The CD version contains two brand new tracks and it's also out on DVD containing remixes by Four Tet and The Soulsavers. Truly splendid despite containing the word "baby".

Space Monkeyz V Gorillaz - Lil' Dub Chefin' (Parlophone)
The intergalactic chimps' dub version of single M1A1, backed with Strictly Rubbadub (Slow Country). Retaining only that Blur frontman's vocal and re-recording the rest, classic dub rhythms, horns and reverb make a good substitute. There's even the faint sound of a spliff being rolled. The Monkeyz' dub fanatic drummer Richie hopes "a lot of people who bought Gorillaz might just buy this and discover a whole new genre". A good way of easing into dub. MW 18 July 02
