Primal Scream - Miss Lucifer (Sony)
The Scream are back and have developed their aggressively industrial Xtrmntr-style and embraced the hip new sound of 80s electroclash. It's still got their distinctive Manc swagger and thunders along like a souped-up DeLorean on plutonium. A glimpse of what their seventh album, Evil Heat, might be like.

The Crescent - Test Of Time (Hut)
My god. It's as if Cast had never gone away. The Cresent are definitely scouse scallies. They actually spent some time with The La's' Lee Mavers before splitting up and reforming to get shot of him. You'd hardly notice, mind you. Better than Cast but not as original as fellow Liverpudlians The Coral.

1 Giant Leap - Braided Hair (Palm Pictures)
The latest single from the 1 Giant Leap project, a global journey by Faithless' founder Duncan Bridgeman and film-maker Jamie Catto, which spawned an album of world collaborations. Braided Hair features Speech (Arrested Development) and Neneh Cherry on vocal duties, but it's as middle of the road as a central reservation and only slightly more attractive. MW 11 July 02
