Dutch chillout art films at London's ICA Award winning Dutch artists, Jeroen de Rijke and Willem de Rooij, are sure to attract attention when the first UK exhibition of their sublime films opens at the ICA London 31 May. Three of their films, Chun Tian (1994), Of Three Men (1998, pictured), and the award-winning Bantar Gebang (2000) are to be premiered. Like Turner Prize winner Steve McQueen these artists are notorious for breaking the rules of contemporary art. Working with the inherent qualities of film, their crystal clear photography highlights rich colours and unhurried movements, resulting in the work often being compared to painting rather than traditional film. Each work is projected in isolation, turning each individual room into contemplative a chill-out space. The sound and image are edited out of synch which is slightly disconcerting and makes you stop and consider the subject of the films. Themes include architecture, nature, history and religion, but don't let the serious subject matter put you off; the sheer magnificence, generated by the grand scale and slow pace of the work, will take your breath away. HR 20 May 02 Exhibition runs 31 May to 07 July at ICA, The Mall, London. Entry (day membership) £1.50 weekdays, £2.50 weekends. Open 1200-1900 daily.
