Between the sacred and profane Their name may sound confrontational, but Portland, Oregon’s Jackie-O clearly prefer quiet to riot. This is an album where nothing much happens, even though a lot goes on: insects whine against improvisational clicks and beeps, and soft madrigals build into crescendos of noise. The idea was apparently to deconstruct an obscure American hymn: there are songs about God and nature, and an abiding sense of beatific beauty. Nevertheless, despite some undeniably lovely moments, at their most experimental, Jackie-O would try the patience of a saintJackie-O Motherf**ker - Flags Of The Sacred Harp, released 05 December 05 on ATP Recordings.
