A trend-dodging missile from New York. Fred from Frisco and Daniel from LA are New York-based duo, Department Of Eagles, and they describe this re-released, underexposed “cult” LP of 2003 as their “saucy missile strike”. This is a trend-dodging sound, a mixed-up bag of post-Shadow samples, “real instruments” and wonky vocals. Cold Nose veers from lush strings and haunting orchestrations, to lo-fi punk thrashes, goofy Laurel & Hardy whimsy and skew-whiff harmonies. D Of E are definitely odd, but thankfully free of wackiness or try-hard eccentricity. Smell the coffee, then, ‘cos Fred and Dan’s beans are jumpin’. Department Of Eagles – Cold Nose, released 21 November 05 on Melodic.
