Life through a lens. In a society starved of spectacle, Pete Doherty’s car-crash rock tickles titillation seekers, directionless types looking for a saviour, vicarious voyeurs, junkie fetishizers, fanatics and… people who like a rabble-rousing tune. The slurred, soul-laid-bare fare here is a three-act popera predictably following the doomed love between “Girl” and “Beast”. With the studio antics tabloided to tedium, Mick Jones’ production, however, is Clash sweet while this mumbled mess of an LP is no total sham; Doherty’s jabbering revealing flashes of touching poetry. Although the duds outweigh the goods, this is a carcass worth picking over. Babyshambles – Down In Albion, released 14 November 05 on Rough Trade.

Pete Doherty is one of the cleverest men in england. Apart from the track 'The 32nd of December' the album is fantastic. Tracks such as 'Killamangiro', 'Pipedown' and 'A'rebours' are fine examples of his knowledge.

although it's not quite as explosive and fresh as 'up the bracket', and the production is a bit shoddy, i still think that this is a very good album (give or take about 4 tracks that bring it down). dohertrys touching lyrics and sweet melodies, mixed with the chaotic and uncertain element of the band that runs parallel with petes own life ensure that this album delivers some great tracks. at the moment there are too many people who have dismissed doherty purely on his tabloid image, without giving his music a chance. any of those who have heard the acoustic sets about on the internet such as 'acousticalullaby' will know that he is capable of beautiful poetry full of heart-wrenching honesty. he may be a troubled soul, but he is capable of absolute genius.

This album is class in a proverbial glass. Iv only listened to it a few times: the songs that stand out so far are 32nd december, up the morning, albion, kilamangiro and the loyalty song. The album version of F**k forever seems better than the single version but i reckon the opposite is true of Kilimangiro-Doesn't quite have the oomph of the single (still good tho)
