the beat that my heart skipped
the beat that my heart skipped
Caught between art and crime.

In a reverse of tradition, this is a French remake of an American film (James Toback’s 1978 Harvey Keitel vehicle, Fingers). Sticking to tradition, though, director Jacques “Read My Lips” Audiard’s French riff is much better. In fact this tale of a thug who wants to reform his ways and become a concert pianist is one of the films of the year. It has everything - a terrific central performance from the sultry Romain Duris, a soundtrack to die for and a poetic love story. Make sure you don’t miss this beat.
