Goodfoot
by: Felonious Munk  17 october 05
Good Times Good Music
Goodfoot is the longest running Soul, funk and Bugalu night in Glasgow and it's lasted thirteen years because of its laid back, unpretentious atmosphere. It's taking a rest just now till we find a new venue.
Goodfoot was started by music fans and DJ’s who had a background in Northern Soul, Aid jazz and rare groove. The Resident DJ’s include Fraser Dunn, Chris, Mark of Straight Ahead and me Felonious Munk.

The club has a superb sound system and aided by a good engineer who knows we tend to pay seven inch singles rather than the big twelve’s which dominate other clubs. It’s my job to tweak the decks and cartridges and walk the floor to check the sound. We don’t go for flashy lighting rigs we just concentrate on getting people up to dance.

We have people who have been going to Goodfoot from the outset and others who have rediscovered their love of soul music and returned to the scene. Young clubbers who don’t like Glasgow’s commercial scene and who don’t want to be hassled come to Goodfoot for a relaxed night out. There’s no dress code but if you want to dance you should wear leather soled shoes. The club owner does not like talc or French chalk on the floor.

It’s not strictly a Northern Soul night although we do play lots of soul records. You can dance any style you want to, nobody bothers. Or you can sit around a table; make friends have a chat (we respect the music, we don’t blast it) and a reasonably priced drink.

There ‘s a warm up from nine till midnight in McChuill’s in the High Street and then it’s a five minute walk to Clyde Street and a fiver to get into Goodfoot.

Both Fraser and I have soul shows on www.radiomagnetic.com and you can listen to our old shows in the listen again archive on the web site. Sometimes I record some of the sets straight off the decks at Goodfoot and then play them on the radio.
