A welcome return. Thirty-five years is a long time between albums. Fans of Vashti Bunyan’s low-key 1970 release Just Another Diamond Day had doubtless given up hope by now, but thanks to a burgeoning neo-folk scene (and its re-discovery of 60s/70s acts), Bunyan is back with a new collection of haunting, timeless songs. Lookaftering is authentically crafted, all aching melodies played on acoustic instrumentation. Her crystalline voice blows through the natural world with a fragile, classic force that contemporary ears may find difficult to ignore.Vashti Bunyan – Lookaftering, released 17 October 05 on Fat Cat.
