The Buckleys reborn.

While the likes of Starsailor are keen to claim a shared bloodline with the Buckleys, Tim, at least, has more in common with today’s alt folk scene than mainstream rock. Not that the bands on this tribute album are particularly faithful, preferring to capture the spirit rather than the sound, and sometimes not even that. The Earlies transform I Must Have Been Blind into prayerful psychedelia, while the Engineers use radiant reverb to pull you under on Song To The Siren, and Bitmap’s version of Jeff’s shimmering Dream Brother is redrawn in crayon. Elsewhere, inventive takes by Tunng, Adem and The Magic Numbers all have more to offer than simply admirable taste in other people’s music.
