Americana titans close the generation gap. Having missed their appointment to be the backing band on Iron And Wine’s debut LP back in 2002, alt country warhorses Calexico have finally got their man, as they provide the backing for the Toby-jug-faced Sam Beam on this seven-track mini album. Joey Burns and John Convertino’s men proceed to add depth and colour to the indie golden boy's supine sound, with drunken Mariachi horns on History Of Lovers and a boho-jazz frenzy on Burn That Broken Bed. Perhaps they should get their acts together more often. Calexico/Iron And Wine - In The Reins, released 26 September 05 on Touch & Go.
