Personal opus from the UK’s best new soul voice.

Perhaps more familiar to the public belting out lead vocals for Quantic Soul Orchestra, Alice turns her stunning holler down to a more comely tone for her second solo album, warmly evoking a bygone age of singers that merely sang and had no image to keep up, or ideology to adhere to. Her style is charming, effortlessly soulful and she is capable beyond her 29 years, handling multipart harmonies as well as lead vocals. TM Juke’s sharp, jazzy production matches her mood perfectly, harmonizing two major talents. Both are about to have their day.

Daddy Bones 22 September 05 rating of 3 and 1/2
Alice Russell - My Favourite Letters, released 26 September 05 on Tru Thoughts.
