Dulcet vibes from Texas. Austin’s AmAnSet are that rarest of things – a US indie guitar band who favour the subtle brush stroke over primary colour outbursts. 2003’s Promise Of Love gently ratcheted up the musicality on what was previously a somewhat fey signature sound, and Set Free, while always erring toward mellowness, is another sophisticated slice of warm-amped, sub-Velvet Underground intimacy. Occasionally, murmuring singer, Andrew Kenny, gets buried in the mix but shimmering guitars, brushed snare drums and dulcet vibes will ensnare you pleasantly even as you scrutinize the lyric sheet. The American Analog Set - Set Free, released 05 September 05 on Morr Music.
