Each new Super Furries album brings me a feeling of great anticipation - what will they do next? At first listen, I have to say I felt a little underwhelmed - still miles more imaginitive and interesting than nearly any other band out at the moment, but for me it didn't have the instant attraction of, say, Rings Around the World. That album was full of pop melodies and inventive, eclectic music, that instanly made you start humming along.

Love Kraft is a different beast. Apart from new single Laser Beam, this album is slower and slighly more introspective; I was at first impressed by the instruments and arrangements rather than blown away by the songs. But this is perhaps one if it's real strengths. The SFA have never been a band to follow the verse/chorus/verse/chorus routine, and with this album they've taken their arrangements into new territories. Songs such as the brilliant Cloudberries can probably be best likened to the latter part of Abbey Road - a series of intertwined musical segments rather than one single song, going from an acoustic ballad to latin lounge to ambient electronica.

Elsewhere the mix of singing duties (not just Gruff's distinctive voice on this album), and the epic range of styles (huge choir, grandiose strings, classical piano, sea shanties, electronica...) mean this is one of their most eclectic albums, yet still fits together as perhaps their most coherent pieces of work.

It may be a slow burner, but the rewards are fantastic

This album is totally out of this world! I am in LOVE KRAFT!!
Must admit I had heard of SFA but never actually listened to their music. That's until I saw them live at the Secret Garden Pary recently and thought they were absolutely amazing! I know they've released many albums so I've got a lot to catch up with which is exciting! But where have I been all these years!!
Anyway, I give 10 out of 10 for this one! Pure Genius!!
Can't wait to see the band live again at Bestival next weekend!!
