Philly Pholk. Espers is a steadily expanding Philly collective adept at digging up and modernising the blotter-addled spirit of ‘60s and ‘70s folk acts like Fairport Convention and Nick Drake. This debut album is a fibrous collection of dreamy, kaleidoscopic drones, psychedelic washes and aching melancholia built from a fey menagerie of guitars, flutes, finger cymbals and strings. Dark, minatory currents delicately interweave with rich instrumentation to provide perfect postmodern laments for a generation overwhelmed, undervalued and yearning for immersion in the acidic ether. Espers – Espers, released 08 August 05 on Wichita.
